Tony is eleven years old and what he wants most in the world is a friend. Just one would be enough. But what comes easily and naturally to other children does not come easily to him; he is forced to stay indoors, sheltered from any source of danger, because he is seen as fragile, special, different. Tony is unusual, it's true, because he glows. He literally shines. His skin is so bright that those who tease him call him 'Lightbulb'. Even his parents view his difference as a condition and are therefore overprotective of him. But things change when Shelly, the new neighbour, arrives, bringing with her a magical object and an irresistible call to adventure.

Tony and Shelly's courageous adventure celebrates the value of every human being's uniqueness and of friendship, and reminds us that it is people who create the spirit of a place, and therefore those same people can decide to change the way they live in the world, which is not set in stone.
